How Many Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Seats Does Odisha Have?

Odisha plays a significant role in India’s parliamentary structure, contributing both to the Lok Sabha (the lower house) and the Rajya Sabha (the upper house). As of the latest delimitation and allocation, the state holds a fixed number of seats in each house, reflecting its population and political importance.

Lok Sabha Seats in Odisha

Odisha has 21 Lok Sabha constituencies, making it one of the larger states in terms of parliamentary representation. These seats cover the entire state, including urban centers like Bhubaneswar and coastal areas such as Puri, as well as tribal belts like Koraput and Mayurbhanj. Elections for these 21 seats are held every five years.

Among these, three constituencies are reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC) candidates, and five for Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates, ensuring representation for marginalized communities. Major political parties actively contest these seats, and results here often influence the national political narrative.

Rajya Sabha Seats in Odisha

In the Rajya Sabha, Odisha is allocated 10 seats, elected indirectly by members of the Odisha Legislative Assembly through proportional representation. This allocation is based on the state’s population as per the constitutional framework, placing Odisha among mid‑sized states in terms of upper‑house representation.

These 10 members serve staggered six‑year terms, with elections held every two years to fill one‑third of the seats. The Rajya Sabha seats give Odisha a voice in national legislation and policy debates, complementing the state’s presence in the Lok Sabha.
