Sensex Slips 600 Points from Day’s High, Nifty Holds 25,400 on Weekly Expiry; PSU Banks Underperform

On Thursday, July 3, Dalal Street experienced a tumultuous trading session, with the major indices, the Sensex and Nifty 50, fluctuating between gains and losses before ending with modest declines.

On the weekly F&O expiry, the Nifty index gave up its gains after holding above 25,500, falling more than 100 points from the day’s peak to reach 25,400. The 30-share Sensex fell 600 points from its peak during the day.

The Nifty was down 48.10 points, or 0.19 percent, at 25,405.30 at the closing, while the Sensex was down 170.22 points, or 0.20 percent, at 83,239.47. Approximately 135 shares were steady, 1878 shares increased, and 1885 shares decreased.

Sector-wise, Nifty Auto (up 0.5 percent), Pharma (up 0.3 percent), and Media (up 0.8 percent) all saw increases; the media index was the day’s best performer. Nifty IT, meanwhile, had a slight decline of 0.02 percent and was essentially flat.
