KEONJHAR, ODISHA – The Keonjhar district police have successfully unraveled a complex murder mystery involving a deadly love triangle, a hired contract killer, and the chilling misuse of mobile technology. The investigation led to the arrest of the victim’s wife, her lover, and a professional hitman.
The Crime and Discovery
The victim, identified as Biranchi Narayan Mohanta, was found dead in a secluded forest area near Saharpada. While the scene initially suggested a random mugging or a fatal dispute, the forensic evidence and the nature of the injuries pointed toward a pre-planned execution. This prompted the police to look closer at the victim’s personal life.
The Motive: A Fatal Affair
As the investigation progressed, the police discovered that Biranchi’s wife was involved in an extramarital relationship. Seeking to remove Biranchi from their lives permanently, the wife and her lover allegedly conspired to hire a professional shooter. They agreed upon a significant sum for the contract killing, hoping that a professional hit would keep the suspicion away from them.
The Digital Smoking Gun
The most striking element of this case was the “Shared Location” strategy. To ensure the hitman could find the victim in a vulnerable, remote spot, the wife reportedly used a messaging app to share her husband’s real-time live location.
This allowed the hired killer to track Biranchi’s movements with military precision. By monitoring the digital coordinates provided by the wife, the assassin intercepted him in the forest area, where he carried out the murder and fled.
Police Crackdown and Arrests
The breakthrough came when police analyzed Call Detail Records (CDR) and mobile data. They found a consistent digital trail between the wife and the shooter on the night of the crime. The sharing of the live location became the primary evidence that linked the domestic conspiracy to the physical act of violence.
The Keonjhar police have now arrested the wife, her paramour, and the hired shooter. All three individuals have been charged under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for murder and criminal conspiracy. The mobile devices used to coordinate the hit have been seized for further forensic examination.
