Who is kanak vardhan singh deo?
KANKAVARDHAN SINGH DEO is a politician from the Indian state of Odisha. He is a member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly from the Patnagarh constituency in Bolangir district and a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He belongs to the erstwhile royal family of the princely state of Patnagarh and served as an MP five times before being defeated by BJD candidate Saroj Kumar Meher in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. He was a Minister in the Naveen Patnaik-led BJP-Janata Dal coalition government between 2000 and 2009.
Singh Deo also chairs the Odisha Task Force for Migrant Workers. He recently returned from Thimphu, Bhutan, where he attended the two-day South Asia Labor Mobility Conference with a focus on labour migration and protection of migrant workers’ rights.
During the event, Singh Deo met with Bhutanese Prime Minister Lyonchhoen Tshering Tobgay and explored avenues for deeper collaboration on migrant worker welfare and labor mobility. Odisha is poised to lead the way in inclusive and sustainable agricultural reforms, Singh Deo added. He said the new agricultural policy will focus on organic farming to reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers and protect human health. The Odisha Deputy Chief Minister also addressed a policy round table organised by the CGIAR Initiative and the International Food Policy Research Institute in partnership with the World Bank.
