Senior lawyer fatally shot in Berhampur, Odisha

According to authorities, unidentified individuals shot and killed senior counsel and BJP politician Pitabash Panda on Monday night, October 6, 2025, close to his home in Berhampur, Odisha.

The incident happened in the Brahma Nagar neighborhood of the town.

Panda had previously been connected to the Congress and was a member of the Odisha State Bar Council.

He was standing on a roadside when two males on bikes allegedly opened fire on him from a distance, according to the police. After being brought to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, medical professionals pronounced him deceased.

According to police, the attack’s motivation is still being looked into.

After learning about the attack, Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, the state’s minister of commerce and transportation, hurried to the hospital and medical college with a number of BJP leaders and denounced the incident.
