Nand Kishore Goenka, Father of Dr. Subhash Chandra, Passes Away at 96

MUMBAI — Shri Nand Kishore Goenka, patriarch of the Goenka family and father of Essel Group Chairman Dr. Subhash Chandra, passed away on Monday morning in Mumbai at the age of 96.

The nonagenarian passed away following age-related health issues. Survived by his sons — Dr. Subhash Chandra, Ashok Goel, Jawahar Lal Goel, and Laxmi Narain Goel — as well as grandchildren and extended family, Goenka was widely revered for his life of social work, community welfare, and nation-first ideals.

A Tribute to a Life of Service

Paying a heartfelt tribute on social media platform X, Dr. Subhash Chandra reflected on his father’s enduring legacy and called for celebrating a life dedicated to selfless service:

“This morning, our revered father, Shri Nand Kishore Goenka Ji breathed his last. Though all in the family are saddened, my desire is to celebrate his 96 years of life, which was full of samaj seva, cow seva, and national service as an RSS swayamsevak.”

Throughout his life, Shri Goenka remained deeply connected to community causes. A lifelong member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), he prioritized grassroots social reform, rural development, and gau seva (protection and care of cows), establishing and supporting multiple gaushalas and educational institutions across Haryana and northern India.
