Yamuna Rises Dangerously in Delhi, Families Moved to Camps

Yamuna Crosses 207-Meter Mark in Delhi

At 1 pm on Wednesday, the Yamuna broke beyond the 207-meter mark for the fifth time since 1963, indicating that it is currently running well above the danger mark of 205.33 meters in Delhi. The surge in water level caused flooding in a number of localities near the river, notably the Nigam Bodh Ghat area.

Central Water Commission Forecasts Further Rise

The Central Water Commission has predicted that Yamuna would continue to rise and will reach another significant milestone of 207.40 meters by Wednesday at 8 p.m., placing the nation’s capital on high alert. Rescue Operations in Low-Lying Areas

Several organizations, including the National Disaster Relief Force, conducted rescue operations in low-lying sections of Yamuna on Wednesday due to the rising water level.

Heavy Rains Disrupt Traffic Across Delhi

Heavy rains also flooded areas close to the Yamuna river, like Vinod nagar in east Delhi, which is close to National Highway 24, slowing down traffic across the city.

Loha Pul Closed to Traffic

The Old Iron Bridge, also called the Loha Pul, has been closed to traffic due to the ongoing rise in Yamuna’s water level.

Evacuations Near Signature Bridge

People were compelled to relocate to safer areas as the Hathnikund barrage caused a flood-like condition close to Delhi’s Signature Bridge.

Relief Camps Set Up for Displaced Residents

People are residing in temporary relief camps after being displaced by Delhi’s flood-like conditions.

Food Arrangements for Affected Families

Due to the flood-like conditions in low-lying areas, food arrangements have been arranged for those residing in relief camps in Delhi.
